Check out the new RIM Fiddle Pro Microphone system!

For the last 30 years or so I have amplified my fiddle using various bridge transducers. Whilst this is a robust and well-tested method, there are several inherent problems. Because of the sensitivity of placement of the actual pickup, and the delicacy of the leads connecting the pickup to the lead socket, it is advisable to leave the pickup on all the time. Some consider this rather unsightly, and the acoustic tone of the violin suffers slightly from the contact on the bridge. Pickups actually built into the bridge have a finite life, as all wooden bridges will eventually weaken and fail.
The output of bridge pickups is quite low and usually requires a pre-amp, and the tone often contains a slight high-end buzz, and can be rather thin and weedy.

I was very pleased therefore to discover the RIM Fiddle Pro microphone system. This consists of a tiny mike held over the bass-side f hole by an ingenious plastic-coated spring which fits neatly into the C-bout on the side of the instrument. It is remarkably easy to attach and remove, looks neat and unobtrusive, and gives a warm, airy and intimate sound which gives a true reflection of the acoustic quality of the instrument

With its low-impedance cannon output lead, the microphone requires no pre-amp or DI box, and all in all provides a very satisfactory amplification system.
